ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management) is an awarding body for leadership, management and coaching qualifications, based in Burntwood, Staffordshire. It awards qualifications from Level 2 to Level 7, each offered as an award, certificate or diploma, along with management apprenticeships at Levels 3, 5, 6 and 7 and T Levels in England. Its coaching and mentoring qualifications run from a Level 2 mentoring award for team leaders up to Level 7 certificates and diplomas in executive coaching and mentoring and in coaching supervision, aimed at senior leaders, human resources and organisational development professionals, and professional coaches. Learners study through approved centres, either local training providers or distance learning providers. Employers can also become approved centres, or have their own programmes certified through ILM Assured. An award takes 10 to 120 hours of study, a certificate 130 to 360 hours and a diploma 370 hours or more. ILM does not publish fees on its website, though it helps employers find government-funded qualifications and apprenticeships. It states that about 70,000 people register for an ILM qualification each year through a network of more than 2,000 approved centres. The ILM name dates from 2001, when the Institute of Supervision and Management merged with NEBS Management, the City & Guilds examining board for supervisory studies. The membership body separated from City & Guilds in 2016 and is now the Institute of Leadership, while ILM is a trademark of City & Guilds Limited. Learners on ILM coaching and mentoring qualifications get 25% off membership of EMCC UK, the UK branch of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council.
